I bought this producy as my wife washes very often as my mom is in a nursing home, and I don’t care how well they say your loved ones are cared for, we take mom’s clothes which we bought her, and are expensive, and we pay low prices in sales to help mom stay looking neat, so we turned to doing her laundry, and my wife was using it the other day, so I interviewed her, and asked her what she liked about it, she like the powerful steam-blaster, the lightest iron she ever owned, so who say it is heavy? I don’t know but, my wife suffers from Fibro-Myalgia, and can barely hold anythig offf of a surface too long as her pain increases magnaminousmously compared to the light weight, but, she is very happy with it, as “using only distilled water” she keeps it in nice condition as she shines it after each use, and really likes her new Iron~!~!
About small controls? I don’t know about that either, as my wife has small hands and she has no problems with it at all.
I only give a 4 /5 as I feel that we all can find some better, so nothing I review(unless I am truly thrilled w/it), gets 100% as there is always room for improvement.
Tha’s why I write for the items I buy!

    Great Iron
I owned the Sunbeam 4220 for six years and it finally stopped working. This is basically the exact same iron but it has the EXCELLENT feature of having a retractable cord.

This is by far the best iron I’ve ever used. I am HORRIBLE at using an Iron, but this one is very easy to use, it heats up quickly, and makes great steam. Highly reccomend this product.

Very good, effective – just a little heavy
This a very good iron… One stroke and fabric like linens and cottons are crisp… Its retractable cord function eases winding up the iron area and is safe.

I was concerned about the couple of negative reviews on this irons that said that certain features didn’t work correctly or it wasn’t ergonomic. But, rolled the dice on it anyway. I’ve since discovered this iron is in fact the great buy it appears to be – it just takes a little bit of learning about because the features are slightly different from some other models.

So here’s my thoughts on some of the negative comments and some of the features I’ve really learned to appreciate:
    1) I found the automatic shut-off does work very well. But, unlike many other models it stays on long enough that if you stop to do something else or are doing something else for 15 minutes or so it will still be on and ready to use.(The first time this made me think it didn’t work) But, it doesn’t stay on long enough to burn the house down. (The power light blinks and continues to do so when it turns itself off, until you start ironing again.

    2) It is heavy. It is not as heavy as my old one – but very sturdy. I find it comfortable to use – or as comfortable as I’m ever going to be ironing – something I hate doing.

    3) The steam features are very well designed. A symbol on the selector for the type of cloth you are ironing coordinates to the steam settings. There’s a handy heavy-steam button – that a few quick pushes of adds the extra hmmph you need for those REALLY, REALLY wrinkled pieces.

    4) The retractable cord is great – and mine has worked after repeated uses. However, the first time I used it I didn’t notice there was an almost hidden button in the design that you push to get it to automatically retract. I think others may have had the same issue. The water level is much more visible than many irons which have just a small line – you can see the water throughout the blue part of this iron.

    5) Unlike my last iron – this one is either self-cleaning or somehow stopping the black guck that can form on the iron plate.

The only reason I don’t give it 5-stars is that even though it’s great for the price – I still would have liked to have one of those that have the removable water dispenser, so you don’t have to pour water in it (I just didn’t want to pay for that version). Even with the complimentary filling bottle it’s still not a great way to put water in it.

All in all, I think this is a great iron for the price.

    Not bad
I bought this iron today and immediately used it to iron my new drapes. I did not find it heavy at all, if anything absurdly light.

Like the iron-have it & gave as gift
This was my second Sunbeam iron–this upgraded model didn’t leak like the other one, unless it is actually filled close to the fill line.

    Leaks –
After approx 2 weeks, this iron began to leak continuously. After thirty days, it is not even usable. I just quit ironing because my clothes were getting too wet.

    Not easy to use
It is awkward to use because my hand slides forward as I iron which then hits the spray button and water gets on the part I just ironed. Messy.

    TOO heavy,handle uncomfortable
The iron is very heavy and handle uncomfortable, do not like the fact that I have to unplug the iron everytime I finish using it.

    Good design, not-as-good build
Overall, fine. But I was disappointed in the details: the edges of the flap over the water hole are rough and obviously not produced by someone who cares.

    what ever happened to ergonomics???
This iron is heavy and awkward to hold. Its controls are inconvenient, inaccessible and so small they are difficult to read and manipulate. This is not a good design.
