1.0 out of 5 stars
          No Germany - No Quality
This Rowenta model is a big comedown from Rowenta's previous quality. A previous DX1700 I owned lasted about 6 years with heavy usage.

          3.0 out of 5 stars
          Good while it lasted
I received this iron from my MIL for Christmas 2007. I had asked for a Rowenta that wasn't too heavy, since I have carpel tunnel. This iron worked good, but not great.

I just got though ironing 5 pairs of linen slacks. I was going to bring them to the dry cleaners to press becuase I couldn't get the wrinkles out to wear to work. I dreaded spending the money on that. I figured I would give the iron a shot. In one second I flet the difference, I had a beautiful professional looking crease, with one swipe on linen and with steam. I gave the pockets and xtra burst of steam, and I was done, like a handkerchief, I didn't want to stop, and I hate to iron. You can not go wrong with this item.

This rowenta is the best. I have had a Rowenta for years and it finally died on me.(after 20 years) Needless to say this new one outshines the old one. Lighter and irons like a dream.

          Leaks Water
This iron leaks water. First it was just on occasion. After about 2-3 months, it is now constant from the base of the iron, and I have to go buy a new iron. Don't buy it!

          4.0 out of 5 stars
          Getting the job done
With this iron the job gets done without major effort and in an efficient way. The weight of the iron is perfect and the steam is well controlled.

I was a little nervous about the posts that gigged this particular Rowenta iron.. my lightweight Black & Decker has been with me awhile, and although it does a "decent" job of ironing it was a hassle in terms of the number of steam vents and the amount of time I had to spend on items to get them really looking decent. Because of the few lukewarm reviews on the $49 Rowena DX1700 iron, I decided to purchase it from my local Target (same price) because if it didn't out-perform my current iron, I was definitely planning to return it. Amazon is great in that respect.. being able to print a label, etc., but it meant a trip 4 cold blocks to the Post Office, and waiting for a credit to my account, etc. Target, on the other hand, is a short bus ride away and could instantly reverse the purchase.

I am really surprised! Honestly, this iron is phenomenal.. I don't do this kind of stuff for a living, so those of you who quilt/sew/press on a regular basis may have different standards; but because this so effortlessly took out wrinkles without any "pushing", I decided to do my whole wardrobe, which includes, by the way, a number of lightweight, 100% linen jackets. I couldn't believe my eyes.. there was a post about having to refill the water chamber more than once, but just isn't an issue for me as long as the job gets done fast and well.

If some of the stuff you love to wear is sitting in your sack of un-ironed favorites, and you don't wear it often because you can only wear it once before it needs another "iron-job", for pity's sake, order this guy. In a very small way, it will CHANGE one aspect of your life. I really can't say that much about most purchases!
