When my UPS driver delivered to me this gigantic box, and I could imagine what it was that I had ordered. I opened the box, and to my surprise underneath all those plastic bubbles was a small box with a picture of the Black & Decker D6000 Iron on it.
After I stopped laughing, I took it out, and gave it a try. It felt kind of heavy, but it got my ironing done with little effort on my part. I have been using it now for over a month without any problems. My favorite feature on the Black & Decker D6000 is that the cord with the swivel ball. It just makes ironing a breeze, and not a chore!

If you’re looking for that clean, crisp, professional look on your clothes without having to use a professional steam press, then this Black & Decker iron is for you! With its technological advancements and its heavy metal hot plate, this iron is sure to leave your creases looking great.
PROs:
* The metal hotplate is heavy, which means you do not have to press down so hard while ironing. I read on another review that someone complained that they were afraid their iron was going to fall down when it is stood up, but that is not the case. It has perfect balance!
* It can release steam with the touch of a button, which makes removal of wrinkles easier.
* A second button releases a burst of water, in case you like wetting your garments prior to ironing them.
* The connection cord has a swivel mechanism where it connects to the iron, eliminating the problems of the iron getting tangled up in the cord.
* The iron has a screen that lights up in blue. The screen tells you what temperature you are setting the iron at. 2 buttons that are to the left and right of the screen allow you to turn the volume up or down, according to the material your garment is made out of.
* The iron heats up very fast, thus eliminating waiting time.
* There is a button for the iron to auto-clean itself.
* The iron DOES NOT leak, as some users previously commented. The only way water leaks out is if you overflow the tank or hold it in a position that promotes water from leaking out.
* The heat this iron emits is amazing. I got rid of wrinkles in no time, and it allowed me to achieve perfect creases.
CONs:
* The iron is made mostly of plastic, except for the hotplate. This is really not problem, except that it does not have that “solid” feel to it (although it’s pretty heavy).
* The water tank does not hold much. I managed to put two 8oz cups in it (16 oz) accurately measured in a hospital cup.
* The water runs out right away if you are constantly steaming or pressing the squirt button.
* The flap covering the water refill hole could be a little tighter so water does not come back out if you accidentally tilt the iron towards you.
Other than these minor flaws the iron works great. Perhaps its greatest feature is the digitally controlled thermoregulation and its steaming option. Nothing beats an iron that can heat up to maximum potential in a few seconds. And none of my previous irons removed the toughest wrinkles as easily as this one. Highly recommended!!
* The iron is refilled in a horizontal, rather than vertical position. Of course this is a matter of personal choice, but if you are used to refilling the iron in a vertical position, you will need some getting used to this iron.

I’m very pleased with this iron! The steam does really work at all temps, so I was able to steam even the most delicate of clothing. The iron heated up quickly, no dripping water – I actually enjoyed ironing for once!
I just got this iron, so we’ll see if any problems creep up later…

About the iron: We only got to try it once – to say it leaked is an under statement. Water POURED out of the seam between the base and the sole plate. Also take heed that it is quite heavy – not good for weak or arthritic hands. We can list no positives since we really didn’t get to use it. We have since ordered the Panasonic NI-C78SR and will review it once it arrives.
About Amazon: I have ordered a number of items in the past and have always been happy with the price and results. This is the first problem item, so initially I was concerned about the return procedure. I am pleased to say that it was an easy and no hassle return – all of the procedures were easy to find and follow from their website, including printing of the shipping labels. They issued a FULL refund – no shipping and no restocking fee. Hey Amazon, Well Done.

The first thing that I thought when I received the package containing the D6000 was “Heavy!” after realizing that the box only came with a small owners manual and the actual iron,(which is all you need, really) I wondered if the extra weight would make this iron a little impractical to use.
The iron has a total of six buttons, temp up, temp down, steam on/off, auto clean, surge-of-steam and spray.
It has 7 different temperature settings which work along with what B&D likes to call “Smart Steam Technology” which pretty much means that it adjusts the steam power according to the set temperature. wow!
These are the temp settings and suggested uses for each by B&D:
1. Acrylic: scarves, blouses, knits
2. Nylon: lingerie, robes, sleepwear, raincoats
3. Polyester: knits, dresses, blouses, skirts, travel wear
4. Blends: shirts, blouses, knits, uniforms, bed and table linens
5. Wool: trousers, slacks, jackets, silk scarves and blouses
6. Cotton: 100% cotton blouses and shirts, table linens
7. Linen: slacks, summer wear, jackets blouses
One neat feature that will probably go unoticed by most is that the electrical cord is attached to a swivel ball that makes it easy to move it out of your way while ironing or standing the iron on it’s end.
Once I started using it, I actually begin to apreciate the extra weight (about 4 1/2 lbs. total) of the iron, or, should I say soleplate? Which is actually where most of the weight of this iron comes from.
The extra weight, along with the perfectly balanced steam, in my opinion, made the ironing process faster since for the most part, you just have to pass the iron once and you’re done. Wrinkle free!!!
Unfortunately, like any other appliance, this iron comes with it’s fair share of cons. I found more flaws in the design than I wanted to…
It seems like B&D used the cheapest plastic material they could find! You can press onto any of the plastic sides and you will hear a cracking sound, that might explain why other reviewers complain about leaking problems, although, so far, I haven’t had that problem.
The handle feels similar to what you would find in a cheap plastic dustpan! It won’t break but it’s just not what you would expect from a $50+ iron.
If you decide to stand the iron on it’s side, you might find yourself second guessing since it looks like the soleplate could outweight the standing side of the iron, it’s probably designed not to, but everytime I placed the iron down, I found myself double checking it in fear it might tip over.
Another odd choice in the design is that B&D decided to place the water-fill cover backwards, so you actually have to place the iron horizontally as opposed to standing up in order to fill the water tank, so unless your ironing board comes with an iron rest, you’ll find it a little difficult to re-fill the water tank once the iron is hot.
Overall, this is a good iron But I would highly recommend that you take a look at the D2030 model (also made by B&D) which offers nearly identical features to this one, it addresses the flaws that I found on the D6000 model and it’s about $20 cheaper!
